#MoveAgainstCancer – Let’s get moving Coasties!

We are delighted to join forces with Doctor Do More and Cancer Council Central Coast again in the Central Coasts biggest step challenge #MoveAgainstCancer happening in September. Our amazing founder and head therapist, Kate Perkins, is pleased to be able to once again work with her mate and fellow physical activity advocate Dr Ash Bowden aka Doctor Do More, with both of them on a mission to get people exercising and moving more to improve their health and happiness.

Dr Bowden, a local emergency doctor, and Cancer Council Central Coast are calling on Coasties to step it up in September in the fight against cancer. From September 1st until September 30th, Coasties are coming together in teams to step it out and help raise much needed funds for cancer research. Cancer Rehabilitation & Lymphatic Solutions, through Coastal Rehab Hub, are thrilled to be able to support this fantastic initiative as a sponsor.

We are also stepping up in September as a team, completing over 10 000 steps a day joining Coasties from across the region in our quest to move more and help beat cancer.

Why is exercise important for cancer patients?

For many reasons! Exercise or movement during cancer treatment is known to counteract symptoms of cancer related fatigue; enhance the function of the lymphatic system – reducing the likelihood of developing lymphoedema; reduce the likelihood of cancer recurrence; increase strength, movement & energy; recondition the body; increase bone density; and enhance gut health.

Exercise is also recognised in helping to prevent cancer and other conditions as well as alleviating stress and anxiety.

#MoveAgainstCancer is COVID-19 friendly

The past few years have taught us that taking care of yourself and those you care about is paramount. Physical and mental health is a huge component of this which is why regular physical activity is so important. This fundraiser challenge allows people to stay mentally and physically active by encouraging the simplest form of movement, walking!
